Audrey Smock

It’s been a while since I’ve done an actual refashion… I just haven’t been in the mood 😦 #Winter

Like my pink Tshirt underneath?

This was .50 cents at my favorite local thrift store. It looked very clean/new and warm! Despite the fact green is my favorite color, though, I didn’t think this particular shade was seasonally appropriate… This is a very Summer inspired color, no? Yet it’s a winter garment. I was a bit confused.

Ah ha! It’s a sports jacket! …I guess that makes sense

Despite my better judgement, I gave it a dye bath in some dark green RIT dye.

I have had NO success dying anything lately. In fact, I dare say the ONLY thing I’ve ever dyed that turned out great was this teal sweater so my hopes weren’t high…

I LOVE how it turned out! Who’d have thought? πŸ™‚

Just deepening the green really made a difference. I just had to take it in a bit. I seam ripped the zipper out because I had intended to sew it shut and wear this as a pull-over.

Unfortunately… I think I took it in a wee bit too much. I could’ve sewn the front down, but it would’ve been very form fitting at my hips/thighs (the LARGEST part of my body!) and the pockets would’ve amplified that times infinity so I decided to wear it as a shrug.

Winter Indoor lighting is awful…

The pockets were a bit too complicated to seam rip out without completely destroying the integrity of the garment, so I was kinda stuck with this.

I headed outside to get some better pics.

With my skinny jeans and flats I dare say this look is Audrey Hepburn-esque! I know that’s a COMPLETE reach. No one can ever be as fabulous as Audrey…but an Accidental Seamstress can dream, can’t she?

They’re fuzzy on the inside! πŸ™‚ $4 at Payless

Though it looks gorgeous outside, it was still CRAZY cold so I went back inside.

We’ll just have to deal until Spring πŸ™‚

This was very warm. I wore it to work and was quite comfortable all day.

Starting on a new project…

My favorite part of this outfit is actually that vintage brooch. I scored that at the same thrift shop for $2. Isn’t it lovely?

Does anyone else struggle with the “Winter Blues”??? If so, how do you deal with it?

  1. Hard to believe this before and after! Looks good! Winter doesn’t really bother me, I think I am running around so much I don’t even notice whether it is dark or not! I do exercise a lot, on my treadmill, too so the weather doesn’t prevent that. Good blog shots are difficult though in the winter!

    1. Wow, thanks. Only 45 days until Spring… that could be my happy thought, Ha! πŸ™‚ Is it winter for you? I thought your seasons were opposite ours in the States… or is that just Australia? Anyway, I can’t wait to get your outfit in the mail. That’ll give me something to look forward too as well!

      1. Yeah, so, funny story, Linda. I thought you were in New Zealand or Australia or something… When I got your AWESOME fabric in the mail and saw you were from Canada I wanted to die. In light of that faux pas, I would like to take back my “I thought your seasons were opposite” statement πŸ™‚

Thanks again for the fabric! I can’t wait for the weather to warm up. I’ve got great “Spring” plans for it! πŸ™‚

  2. That’s a fabulous refashion, looks so good on you! And I bet Audrey Hepburn didn’t have fleece-lined flats #Score πŸ˜‰ And yes – I find it hard too, definitely not a productive season for me, more like hibernation…but Rod is definitely an incentive, I think having a dog makes you wrap up and get out – running or walking with him also justifies the comfort food I might eat later that night!! Maybe (sorry this is turning into a sermon!!) this time of year is better suited to other things, I mean, things that require less creative spark? Like repairing things in the wardrobe..? I’m currently making bunting for a friend’s baby shower, and that doesn’t require much inventiveness, but it’s good to be making. OK, I’m going to stop now!
And again, love the finished garment, I think you’ll get a lot of wear out of it! X

    1. Thanks, Gema. Not a sermon at all but good ideas. We’ve been wanting to remodel our kitchen since we moved in and decided THIS year its going to happen…it’s not clothes, but it’s still a “refashion” πŸ˜‰ Believe it or not, but we’ve been toying with the idea of getting a dog too. So these are all good suggestions that I shall take under advisement πŸ™‚ Thanks, girlfriend!

  3. Looks good! The colour looks great on you. I’m thinking I will have to do this with a top I’ve been trying to alter for a better fit. I just can’t get it to look right – too busty and dowdy. Maybe it needs to be a cardigan/smock πŸ™‚
