Living Room Makeover: Part 1

Hubs and I moved into our house in September. Β While it was completely fine and gorgeous “as-is” we still wanted to put our touch on it. We painted all the walls, we took down all the window treatments… not because they weren’t great, but because they weren’t “us.” Life has a funny way of getting in the way of things… but we’ve still managed to get a lot of work done.

Most recently, we’ve made some changes to the living room and I decided to make, what else, new pillow cases!

I bought these remnants for 75% off shortly before Christmas.

We wanted to add more color into the house (get away from the black and gray we had so much of) so I thought the blue “eye” print would be nice. It’s kind of ironic because blue is my least favorite color…

I used the same pillow pattern I use for everything. This time, though, I used Our Baby Lock “Aria” machine to do all the sewing.

This machine is pretty cool

Instead of a straight stitch, I decided to spice it up with a zig zag.

All the feet on Baby Lock machines are different than what I’m used to with Janome… it’s been a bit of a learning curve getting used to the nuances of another brand. In the end though, it all comes out the same:

A zig zag is a zig zag is a zig zag…amiright?

At least it has a little more character now…and so does our couch πŸ™‚

We still have a lot of gray and black going on… I’m probably going to make pillow cases for those other pillows too πŸ™‚

Tim’s been working really hard on giving the walls some personality as well. He started this gallery wall and I love it! Β We’re still going to add on to it, of course, but it’s really coming along.

See what I mean? We’ve really changed things around: Our red couch, coffee table, and big chair are gone. We moved the fireplace into the open space. It’s definitely a work in progress, but when it’s done it’ll be “Our” house. Well, it’s our house now but you know what I mean πŸ™‚

Next, I need to make curtains for all the windows. Stay tuned for Part II πŸ™‚
