Hubs has a corduroy jacket that’s super chic. I call it his “Castle” jacket.
Every time he wears it I get jacket envy… until I saw one for .99 cents at a NEW Goodwill. It is conveniently located a block(ish) away from our new house!
I began by pinning it.
However… this jacked up the connection to the sleeve. So, I seam ripped the sleeves off. I’ll re-add them later.
To my amazement, I managed to sew through all that bulk with no puckering. Things are off to a good start!
Before I reattached my sleeves I de-bulked them cutting off the existing seams.
I typically DESPISE linings with a passion unspeakable; however, due to said single digit temperatures lately, I thought the extra layers would be welcome 🙂
So, I kept it.
To help me attach the sleeves more easily, I stitched the lining to the corduroy:
This extra step seriously made it SO much easier to line the sleeves back up with the armholes of the jacket (Right Sides Together).
The caps of the sleeves were super bulky… I still managed to get caught on parts of the stupid lining. I did have to seam rip and sew again a couple times before I got it to look right.
In the end though, I think it turned out alright 🙂
I’ll be honest… jackets bother me a little. Yeah, it’s super warm but it kinda brings back memories of my Fat days. All I wore were jackets. Every. Single. Day. just about. *sigh
Not a bad fit… not sure why I’m cocking my head like that… I seriously hate taking my picture. What can ya do?
Nothin’. So don’t worry about it. 🙂
I must admit… This refashion will be worn on a I’m-freezing-and-have-to-stay-warm basis only. Try as I may, I just can’t deal with sports jackets. They put me in a very bad place, emotionally speaking. I know that sounds totally lame 🙂 but it truly does.
At the very least I have a warm jacket for .99 cents (My .10 cent shop has been closed due to horrible weather, lately) and I got to practice my sewing “construction.”
