Today continues in the What I Made for Vacation series.
I know it sounds lame but I totally used the scrap elastic for hair ties. If you have long hair than you know the struggle is real! I go through hair ties like crazy. Now, I’ve got 2 free new ones 🙂
Next, I wanted to tighten up the fit by taking it in a couple of inches. I decided to get a little creative by rouching the sides. I did this on a Serger, using my favorite gathering technique. Gather, if you don’t know, is synonymous with “pucker” in sewing.
Sergers cut the fabric as they sew the stitch… so, I could take in the shirt and rouch, gather, pucker, whatever the edges all at the same time. Yah, for fewer steps 🙂 #Lazy.
With sergers there’s no way to lock the stitch. You’re left with a tail of thread and just have to deal with it…
No big whoop. Just trim the tail… and fold the raw sleeve edge under twice to cover it.
P.S. I turned my needle tensions back to normal when I serged the sleeves. I only wanted pucker on the side seams.
Stitch it down with a straight stitch.
And check out that gathered side detail:
This tshirt was perfectly casual and comfortable for an evening of shopping at the new Mega “UTC” shopping center in Sarasota.
This attraction was actually kind of cool…no pun intended. I still haven’t seen the movie yet. I know a couple of nieces that will be more than happy to help me with that 🙂
This attraction was neat but UTC itself was even more impressive… I swear this place is its own city! If you’re ever in the area I highly recommend checking it out.
