Today’s refashion was a generous donation from my friend Desiree. Translation: this cost me NOTHING. More importantly, I’m so “popular” now from this blog, that people are giving me their items to be refashioned! I think that can only mean I have, officially, “arrived.” 😉
It’s not bad… It actually reminds me of that outfit J. Lo wore in “Maid In Manhattan”.
The thing is, J. Lo is a real size 6 (or smaller)…
I’m an 8, but I feel MUCH larger in this get-up 😦
I did get it to zip so… that’s some consolation 🙂
The zipper was IN the turtle neck. Weird. I then sewed up the gaping hole the zipper left behind and made an asymmetrical cut. We’re turning this into a shirt!
Did the same thing with the sleeve.
I cleaned up the raw edges with an overcast stitch:
I’m ashamed to admit this but I let OUT the darts in the back to give me extra room 😦
These darts are “French” because they curve, as opposed to just being a straight line. Google darts if that doesn’t make sense 🙂 I left the darts in the front in tact because my vanity just wouldn’t permit me to let them out!
The shirt was all fine and dandy but I had gone a little crazy with that asymmetrical cut! It was too short on the one side 😦
Then, I remembered a scrap I had left over from my Weekender’s top 🙂
This bottom scrap will save the day!
Are you seeing my vision?
Pin the black scrap into the white top (right sides together) just like you’re sewing on a sleeve
Sew it down.
I have to admit, I’m rather proud of this one 🙂
I probably should’ve worn something patriotic to church… oh well.
You gotta cover it up at church!
27 down, 4 to go 🙂
