Amish Paradise Dress

Why in the WORLD was I drawn to this beige monstrosity, you ask? I’ll tell you: At Job #2, which I love a little too much, (No, seriously, people. I am SO happy I left my previous Job #2 to work here I have to insert a hashtag: #LifeIsGood), we have a new dress code. At first we could just about wear anything; however, now we can only wear solids in black, gray, white, and beige.

Beige 🙂

This beige dress is so awful, it deserves another shot:

“Instead of dance, it’s choreography!”

Where is Danny Kaye when you need him? And HOW was I going to make this a work appropriate garment? Quite easily, actually 🙂

Step 1: Cut

Step 2: Pin

Bottom hem and the sleeves

Step 3: Sew

…Preferably on a Janome 8900 😉

Step 4: wear it! 🙂

My favorite refashion to date! Who ever would’ve thought from the original, right?

I worked at Job #2 from 11-2 and met Hubs for a late lunch at an awesome local place called Cook McDoogal’s.

The architecture of this place is nearly 100% salvaged. The wood, the decor, the glass… everything is recycled from buildings that were abandoned or about to be demolished.  There’s a lot of history in this place!

My drink of choice is ALWAYS water… I love water. I can’t get enough. For serious.
Worth. Every. Calorie.

Confession: I HATE having my picture taken! How else can I capture myself wearing my refashions in the real world, though? And, there were other patrons at the restaurant watching me like, “WHY is she taking her picture? Weirdo.” *Sigh. Oh well. Hence my awkward “smile.”

After lunch, I actually had to go back to work for a few hours. We had a HUGE Friends & Family event that kept us crazy busy all day. When I was able to leave I went to see my Great Uncle Bob for his 91st birthday bash.

He LOVED that cake 🙂

This next picture isn’t from Bob’s 91st, but it captures the essence of his personality much better. Bob is my Nanny’s (my mom’s mother) brother. An illness he had in his early childhood left him mentally challenged. He’s lived with my Nanny and Papaw all his life and is as much a part of our lives as they are. He’s such a gentle soul. He LIVES for Christmas and his birthdays. The excitement is contagious and his smile is infectious. We love Uncle Bob and look forward to his parties *almost* as much as he does 😉

Call me a dork, but I love the birds at Bob’s new digs…
Trying to be artistic…

Seriously… my most favorite refashion I’ve ever done 🙂

  1. That is seriously a beautiful remake. What did you do with the rest of the dress? And I know I’ve never met your Uncle Bob, but I have a feeling he would quickly become one of my favorite people on the planet.

    1. Thanks! I keep all my scraps for a rainy day. I’m sure I’ll use it up eventually. At the moment it’s sitting in my “refash stash”.. The fabric is super soft and comfortable. I love it! And, Uncle Bob is pretty awesome. It’s hard not to love him 🙂

      1. I have one of those ‘refash stash’ drawers myself. Hard to part with those pieces…just never know what I can make with ’em!! 😆
