When I first started refashioning I thought it would be a cinch! The Refashionista inspired me to do great things right out of the gate because she makes it look so easy… I quickly learned that nothing is as easy as it seems. Look at my first posts for gripes sake…awful. In the beginning, I purposefully tried to find the most hideous outfits I could, thinking the “after” would be just so awe-inspiring, that I myself would be labeled a “refashionista” of sorts… This is one such outfit 🙂
When I picked this up on a 99cent Sunday at Goodwill, even my husband gave me the “look.” Like, “You sure you want to get that one, honey? …I don’t think it can be saved.”
He’s right: The shape is horrible, the color washes me out, the print is lame, and the vesty thingy with it is even lamer! I immediately regretted this purchase.
Into my “Refash Stash” it went and there it remained for months… until I had an epiphany!
First thing’s first… I got rid of the vest.
I might do something with this later… but I’m doubtful there can be any improvement 🙂
Then, I lopped off the top of the dress from the armpits up. I pinned the raw edge under an inch to make a casing for elastic. I inserted the elastic and voila! That’s IT, people!
Seriously. I spazzed about this thing so bad and it ended up being the easiest refashion I’ve ever done! It took a whopping 10 minutes.
That print’s not so hideous after all 🙂
I’ve worn this dress to work several times and every time I’ve gotten a compliment on it. It just goes to show that you can refashion anything.
